Summary
Due to the introduction of Synthetic PoRep, which eliminates the need for Storage Providers (SPs) to retain 11 layers of PoRep, there's an opportunity to reduce the PreCommitDelay
from 150 epochs to the Finality duration. This adjustment is expected to enhance the security of the power table and the PoRep protocol.
Motivation
Longer forks than 150 epochs are possible (especially in the case of a 33% collusion in the network), although very unlikely and not rational. Up until Synthetic PoRep, it was too expensive to keep 11 layers for finality (600 blocks). This is not expensive any more, hence why the network should finally fix this minor security exposure.
Proposal
Change in Parameters:
PreCommitDelay
: Increase from 150 epochs to Finality.
